TFA Totteridge, Match Report, 09/03/13

Monday, March 11th, 2013

Hampstead U9A played out another hard fought draw in this rearranged game against TFA Totteridge U9A. Once again, Hampstead were missing several key players and had to switch some boys to less familiar positions. Hampstead made a slow start, giving away the ball far too easily and finding it hard to get into their flow on a heavy pitch. TFA Totteridge put together some nice football and had several chances but ultimately took a deserved lead through a mix-up in midfield. Half-time 0-1. Hampstead got back into the game after the goal and raised their game in the second half, gradually finding their shape and form. Jonathan and Jay were strong at the back, Finlay showed creativity in midfield, and Luc and Jonathan got more involved on the flanks. George had an excellent shot deflected just over the bar and more chances came. Luc was being marked very tightly throughout the game, but managed to turn in and out of his defender to line up a left foot shot from the edge of the area that hit the back of the net. The final minutes of the game were more even; Hampstead had several chances but at the other end Joe pulled off another amazing save and Jonathan Spencer raced back to make a match-saving tackle on the edge of the Hampstead box. In the end it was a slightly disappointing performance, but a good point against a well-organised side and with several players out of position. Final score 1-1. Player of the Match: Jonathan Spencer, for some tight defending and strong tackling.

TFA Crouch End, Match Report, 03/03/13

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Hampstead U9A had their first draw of the season in a tough battle with TFA Crouch End U9A. The Hampstead team were again missing several players and took a little while to get into their game. TFA were physically stronger at the start, but Hampstead soon generated several chances, with George and Finlay having good efforts on the counterattack. Joe was confident in goal and produced a one-handed diving wonder-save to stop a goal-bound shot and keep Hampstead in the game. Half-time 0-0. TFA continued to pile on the pressure in the second half, but Hampstead also developed their game and were able to see more possession. Jonathan and Eric were resolute in defence and Bobby, Alfie and Finlay worked hard in midfield to cover. TFA had several good chances on goal but Joe seemed in unstoppable form until ten minutes from the end, when TFA broke through and slotted the ball neatly home. Hampstead could have easily faded but instead lifted their game and came straight back. Within minutes, George latched onto a through ball and saw his low shot beat the goalie for the equaliser. Hampstead stayed strong in defence and kept their shape well, to see out the last few minutes for a hard-fought point. Although not their best performance, Hampstead showed great character to get back into the game and worked hard throughout. Final score 1-1. Player of the Match: Joe, for commanding the box, good distribution, great positioning and above all his likely save-of-the-season.

Brook House, Match Report, 10/02/13

Thursday, February 14th, 2013
13.02.13 Hampstead put in a very strong performance against Brook House “A” in muddy conditions to get a deserved away win. As usual, the team started brightly. Early pressure led to a goal for Alfie with a low shot in the corner and an excellent effort that rattled off the crossbar a few minutes later. Hampstead kept up the pressure in the first half with some good attacking football and forced some outstanding saves from the Brook House goalie, but could not add to their lead. Half time 1-0. In contrast to recent weeks, Hampstead started the second half well, with some excellent flowing football and strong commitment from all the team. Luc added to the lead with a well-taken goal from the edge of the area and hit the woodwork twice. Both Jonathans and Eric showed some creative presence in bringing the ball forward as well as solid defensive work. Alfie and Jay demonstrated excellent strength and linked well in the middle of the field, and Luc’s corners were always a threat. Joe kept his concentration well in goal and dealt with everything effectively despite the heavy conditions. Overall, a great team performance and some creative football in the mud. Final score 2-0. Player of the Match: Jay for his work rate, focus and link play with the rest of the team.

Bessingby Park Rangers, Match Report, 03/02/13

Monday, February 4th, 2013

Hampstead went into Sunday’s games against Bessingby Park Rangers “A” in positive mood, after some excellent football recently, and took an early lead thanks to Alfie after a scrappy goalmouth encounter. Hampstead kept up the pressure, hitting the bar and having several good chances from corners. However, Bessingby equalised from a fine header and got a foothold back in the game, as Hampstead failed to capitalise on the pressure before the break. Half-time 1-1. Hampstead changed formation in the second half to try some players in different positions. Bessingby came out strongly and took their chances well, taking the lead early on. Hampstead failed to keep the ball as well as usual and let the visitors break through with two more goals. A disappointing day for Hampstead against a well-organised side. Final score 1-4.

Ruislip Rangers, Match Report, 13/1/13

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013

Ruislip Rangers second visit to Chase Lodge this season was the classic game of two halves. Having lost narrowly in our last encounter, the U9A team were determined to get a result and started the game in excellent form. Several early attacks led to Alfie heading in Luc’s pinpoint corner after just 4 minutes and an early lead.  Hampstead continued to dominate the game throughout the first half with some fine passing football. However, they failed to add to their lead, and a quickly taken free kick just outside the area lead to a Ruislip equaliser in first half injury time. Half-time 1-1. The tables were turned in the second half as Ruislip came out strongly and took control. Hampstead tired and Ruislip’s physical strength paid off with two goals in the last few minutes. Final score 1-3. Player of the Match: Eric for battling hard and standing strong for 50 minutes.

Pitshanger FC, Match Report, 6/1/13

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013

The U9A team started phase II of the season with a convincing win away at Pitshanger FC. With Fin and Jonathan missing, Bobby and Nicky stepped up brilliantly and the team gelled well together. The first half was tight with good opportunities but strong resistance from Pitshanger and their goalkeeper who made several fine saves. Half-time 2-0. After the break Hampstead kept their shape and momentum, Eric and Jonathan defended solidly and the team passed the ball nicely at times. Alfie was on target with a total of four goals, Luc struck with two, and Joe kept a clean sheet. A positive team performance all round. Well done lads. Final score 7-0. Player of the Match: Alfie for 4 well taken goals.
